We’re here to make weed control and wildfire risk mitigation fun! Why spray nasty chemicals and use noisy expensive machines when you can have your four-legged friends over for lunch? Goats and sheep offer a simple and economical approach to managing your landscape, whether for noxious weed control or to reduce the risk of wildfire by reducing fine fuels like foliage and dry grass. And of course, the goats are a lot more enjoyable to be around than RoundUp and mowing equipment.
Don’t be afraid to Make America Goat Again! These animals are ready to help, and they really do this sort of thing for a living. Goats can efficiently reduce fire-fuels on steep hillsides, and they will have a great time doing it! They are the original All Terrain Vehicles.
The plants that people call weeds are almost all the goat’s favorite meal; Canadian Thistle, Russian Olive, Knapweed, Spurge, and so many more troublesome plants are readily devoured by these hungry and hardworking animal allies.
Please contact us to set up a free site visit and plant survey to see if your land is a proper buffet for these furry weed eaters. We have been “out-standing in our field,” long enough to tell you who’s who in the diverse world of plants and shrubs here in Southwestern Montana, so give us a call and we can chew the cud together. Our mission is holistic with three main tenets:
Land Care: help end the use of toxic chemical herbicides in our landscapes, while improving soil health and plant diversity through the grazing of goats and sheep.
People Care: the meat of the goats and sheep will contribute to the local food system, and the work of herding and rearing the animals will create a livelihood for local people, giving them a higher quality of life.
Animal Care: goats and sheep flourish and thrive in a rotational grazing system that incorporates a diversity of forage and access to clean water. Their well-being is what makes our well-being and we treat them accordingly.
Our pricing is dynamic because our goal is to create a sustainable land management system that can out-compete businesses that use herbicide sprays on noxious weeds. Our business centers around the grazing of goats and sheep but may include some chainsaw work to remove woody material as well.
We can be more flexible in our rates because we sell excess animals for meat to our local community. So, we have two income streams; one from the fire fuels reduction and weed grazing services, and the other from the production of animals for meat. Therefore, we can offer highly competitive pricing. We guarantee a lower rate for weed management than the spray applicators. Don’t pay to spray; think all graze and no sprays.
Our rates vary depending on the topography of the site, proximity to busy roads, distance from our home base in Gallatin Gateway, and the landowner's end goals for the grazing service i.e.. how much impact they want the animals to make–how many days in each enclosure.
Want to get involved and help us grow? We have plenty of volunteer opportunities available throughout the year. Come join our community and make a difference!
